MANO does Movember 2011

Marc and I have once again put aside any semblance of dignity to show our support for Movember; growing Moustaches (or Mos) for a month to raise money for a good cause.

This year with the support of clients, friends and family ‘Team MANO’ was able to achieve a personal best result raising over $1000 for Movember charities.

Movember aims to raise awareness of a range of men’s health issues. Through the Movember Foundation and its men’s health partners, the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and beyondblue – the national depression initiative, they fund world class research, educational and support programs which would otherwise not be possible.

Marc and I would like to thank our clients (and wives) for their support during this foolish endeavour, and just to prove that at MANO we don’t do things by halves we have attached the follow photo of our month’s work.

MANO Design: Great new name, same great design service

As of 1st July 2011, Melbourne’s newest Industrial design and product development firm, MANO Design, has been formed by Simon Andresen and Marc Fraser.

MANO Design is the culmination of nearly 12 months of planning and preparation, and represents a new chapter in each of Simon and Marc’s careers as professional industrial designers.

A Spanish term for “hand,” the MANO name and identity represents Simon and Marc’s hands-on and pragmatic approach to product design, and reinforces their intent to remain at the coal face of all client projects to ensure client dreams, expectations and requirements are met.

Marc: “During our respective careers, Simon and I have always tried to maintain close working relationships with our clients – this is crucial when you are often helping them realize ideas they may have had floating around for many years, or you need to know that you are briefing the designer that will actually be doing the work!”

For existing clients, it will be business as usual, albeit under a new brand name. Simon: “We’ve been keeping our clients in the loop about the change from Marc Fraser Design to MANO, and we’re really encouraged by the support and well-wishes we’ve received from everyone”

The only substantial change clients will see will be administrative, but this restructure is designed to create a design business that even more focused on innovation and delivering great design outcomes for our loyal and future clients.

MANO Design will primarily forge it’s name in industrial design and product innovation. However, complementary services including strategic design advice & management, product graphics, animations and design communications will run in parallel with these core skills and provide clients with a complete & experienced micro-design service.

Marc: “No matter if it’s pure industrial design, product engineering, prototype construction, right through to the development of marketing collateral, brochures, displays and product packaging, MANO can help using our years of design expertise, tools and high-end CAD and illustration software.”

EM light recognized in 2011 Australian International Design Awards

Spa Electrics’ collaboration with MANO Design has been recognised as a “Good Design” in the 2011 Australian International Design Awards (AIDA).

The Victorian manufacturing and technology company has developed a new range of LED pool and spa lighting for the competitive 60mm niche-style underwater lighting segment, with numerous design and electronic innovations & patents pending.

The modular lighting range is designed for installation in new concrete, fibreglass and vinyl pools, and can also be retro-fitted to existing pools. The products incorporate numerous innovations in electronic design, manufacturing, operation, installation and energy efficiency.

We assisted in the following areas:

Product design and detailed development
3D CAD and 2D specification development
Prototyping & testing
Pilot installations
Packaging development – structural and graphics
Development of marketing and advertising materials
Tooling & pre-production coordination

It’s been a thoroughly satisfying and enjoyable project, and our involvement has helped Spa Electrics’ to launch the range nationally and internationally.
